I'm not a fan of the violence or the blood shed in those types of movies, and will only agree to watch them if they keep it clean. Last night we watched "Brawler" and Sean expressed that desire for a barn in his life. Yes, you read that correctly, a barn... I think he must have an idea that we live somewhere warm! He would like a barn so he can create a big open gym.
This got me to thinking this morning, Edinburgh has a collection of gym's - only Pure Gym opens 24 hours and it's cheap, thus the basis of its major appeal. Virgin Active have two gym's in Edinburgh also, they're considerably more expensive but have fantastic locations and equipment - the downside, along with their expense and their 12-month locked in contracts? They have limited opening hours and for the student population or suckers like me who work late afternoon and into evening (who also don't like getting up early) there is limited options to actually go to the gym except for days off. Also for someone who wants to go to a gym and beat up a punch bag the options become limited yet further.
There are less than a handful of boxing/MMA style gyms around. So my little brain trotted off with itself... What would be the process of setting up a boxing/MMA gym? You could get a location, doesn't need to be central, start off by kitting it out with basic equipment - you wouldn't need to hire a trainer for a while, if you just advertised it as a training facility. Then onwards and outwards, depending on the legality, open an arena for non-league fights. I went on this little train of thought for a while...
Discussing it with Sean this evening, he has this logical process, "That's a couple of years away" he said. I pottered on with my Google searches - I don't know what we would do without Google. The ability to Google everything is something you don't appreciate until you're an adult!
I quite happily said "It's ok, I've thought of a name... Inc Gym and then Inc Arena" to which Sean then said, "What about Ellis Gym, then Ellis Arena and next to them could be Ellis Couture" - so I could have a boxing/MMA gym next to an area for fights and then a boutique fashion house for plus-size women... Sounds like a perfect development of the Ellis brand!
Why wouldn't you want to have a dress designed and made to fit you perfectly, and keep an eye on all the fighters training in the gym next door? Eye candy much.
