The Barratt house was part of a Golden Share Scheme enforced by Edinburgh Council, and because of that enforcement there are restrictions on potential buyers. So apparently because I'm neither pregnant or dragging around a child already we do not meet the qualifying criteria for the property and "why can't we get a two bed?". Well, nosey woman who should want to make a sale, we don't want a two bed because we're already in a two bed - and a big two bed at that!
So we're back to square one. Again.
Unless we can find a new build with a Help to Buy scheme so we can get a 5% deposit but with no Golden Share's or whatever then we'll have to wait till early next year to buy. That way we'll have enough for a 10% deposit and the other fees - plus we'll be able to search further afield for properties.
It's quite disheartening at times. Whenever I've looked for properties to rent, it's been a fairly painless process - look at a couple of places in the same day, decide on one and bish bash bosh the paper work's signed and we're off. That's pretty much how we ended up in our current flat. It's a big two bed, small kitchen but it's manageable and we've not suffered any price rises in the several years that we lived here either. So all-in-all it's a pretty sweet deal. All we need now is for it to have a third bedroom, a bigger kitchen with it's own window and a private garden. That's all I would like, I think it's what we would both like.
I'll keep my fingers crossed and I know something will come our way. It'll find us when it's the right time.
