After my successful attempt at making DE's banoffee pies - they just need a couple of tweaks for next time! I decided that the next thing I would attempt is rice crispie cakes - obviously the recipe my mother used would not be appropriate this time as it consisted of melting down toffee's and marshmallows into a sticky, delicious syrupy glue and then stirring rice crispies into the mixture until they were all a combined pile of crackling sweet goodness. The recipe I want to attempt uses quinoa puffs and a homemade caramel syrup - sugar free of course. The caramel syrup will be the hard part of this recipe as actually I don't find medjool dates to be all that tasty and sweet, there is a definite lack of the kind of syrup quality I want.
But I digress... I was having trouble finding puffed quinoa - and to be honest, reading recipes on line of how to puff quinoa sound like just a bit more work than I wanted to have to do. So opening DE's book I decided to try GoodnessDirect.com - and what a treasure trove it is!
Everything from personal care, such as soaps and shampoos, to sugar-free chocolate - I was hooked. They even stocked the incredible chilli and lemon hummus crisps that Scot and I had devoured on our last movie night!
All the products were the same price/if not slightly cheaper than health food stores, the delivery was free if you spent over their threshold and there was an easy choice of delivery days. My box of goodies arrived yesterday - quinoa puffs and breakfast balls - that look suspiciously like Golden Nuggets, all the canned beans I'd run out of, a stock-pile of hummus crisps and a bit of sugar free chocolate for recipes.
