Not the reality obviously! January is still a Winter month, it's a wrap up warm and treat yourself nicely month. It's about warming food and cold nights. It's about the days slowly but surely getting longer again. It's a shame for little old January, people get so wrapped up in New Years resolutions, exercise and diet regimes that they forget we're still in Winter and that the best thing we can do for ourselves is indulge - not in lots of chocolate and alcohol, but in nutritious warming dinners, snuggly evenings and early nights. The best thing we can do is look after ourselves.
People get so tired, so aggrevated because they want their summer body right NOW! Calm your jets. If you want to jump on board an exercise regime then do it slowly, introduce yourself, take 5 minutes a day to do some crunches or squats. Build yourself up, don't try and drown yourself in New Years resolutions that will ultimately fail because you failed to give yourself the time!
Mum and I have signed up to a beginners yoga course, something we talked about a lot end of last year and finally dived into this year. It starts tomorrow. I've done yoga before and I loved it, it may be the best exercise to introduce yourself to in January. It stretches your muscles, wakes them up from their Christmas stupor, generates warmth and energy in your body - that's the kind of exercise you should be getting into, especially if you're like me and don't do a lot of gym days or fixed exercise throughout the year.
It's a bit traumatic at times, there are still a huge amount of people coughing, sneezing and sniffing as they try to battle off the cold and flu bugs and viruses. My ears are still slightly blocked, my left ear blocks painfully every now and again - it's not wonder everyone is in a slightly bad mood!
All you can do is take the meds, eat the right food, drink lots of water and sleep. Make sure you get lots of sleep! Speaking of which, I cannot stop yawning! I better go get some of that nutritious warming food to re-energise me!
Feel sorry for poor January, it's not a bad month, it's just a Winter month!
