The process is quick and fairly painless, I was in a good mindset, motivated and positive. Then with a bounce in my step I decided to pop into Real Foods on my way home. I'd been in before but as a brief encounter with health foods - and to be honest I went in to buy oats and then left. This visit however I felt like a wide-eyed ingenue staring at the walls of grocery products with an excitable haze.
I delight in seeing fresh fruit and veg, outside of plastic packaging, piled into crates and baskets. I think the UK almost misses out on this - health food stores and farmers markets are some of the only places you can see this abundance and that makes me sad.
However, following Deliciously Ella's product advice list, I began gathering together what I would need to attempt some of her recipes - including some additional bits and pieces. As I drag Sean along in this new change I needed to ensure there was food in the house for him as well - including snacks! Who knew there was this many healthy snacks around? Who knew that even chocolate came in a huge amount of healthy varieties? - Not that I picked any up. Chocolate-free zone. Well... actually the aim is for a sugar-free zone - as much as that is possible!
So now my cupboards have a host of alien ingredients - coconut oil, energy balls, hundreds of grams of almonds, pecans, hazelnuts, raw honey, maple syrup and cacaco - and somehow I have to create appetising and delicious dinners from them all.
Well... Might as well get started!
